So.. today will be my first day of class.. Wonderful. No really, it is. Though it would be more wonderful if my school didn’t charge me extra fees ex-post-facto this semester. I had paid the $2k for Fall 2009 and then a week later they decide, “you know what, we’re really stupid idiots having believed we could get away with another year of California operating on -$24,000,000,000. We’ll just have to raise student fees another 20%, effective immediately, with disregard to anyone that may have already paid. That other 10% increase we did last month just isn’t going to cut it.”
As I see it, if you pay for something at a price, you get it at that price. Not a week later we decide that the 100% payment we received from you is now 80% and you need to pay the difference, or we’ll disenroll you from your courses. NO.
Take for example, an Internet purchase. I go to some website and I buy something. We’ll say I bought a book called Common Sense from Amazon. I enter my CC# and pay them 100% of the price, plus shipping and handling. They send me the book. Awesome! We’re doing good so far… BUT then before my book arrives from UPS, Amazon contacts me… says, “You know what.. we don’t know how to manage money.. sorry for the inconvenience (not really), but we’re going to have to ask you to pay an extra 20% for that book, or else it will never arrive to you.” WTF!?!?!?!
So by that logic, I should be able to go to a restaurant, order an awesome meal, eat it all, then after they give me a check, I say, “Oh wait.. no that isn’t going to work. See… you need to give me another 20% more food. After you gave me the food I realized that it was only 80% of the food that I need. So an extra 20% food is required, or I will not pay that check.” THINK THAT’S GONNA FLY?! YOU’LL HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO THINK ABOUT IT IN THE SLAMMER THAT NIGHT.
COME ON PEOPLE! COMMON SENSE!
